From the old sanatorium to the Devil’s Rocks
Hike to the Devil’s Rocks with Simon Žlahtič
Sunday, 2 June 2024, 17:00
meeting point: Old Sanatorium, Tyrševa ulica 19
end: Hudičeve skale, Kamnica
Our surroundings are filled with stories of the unusual, if not the supernatural. They are man’s way of linking space and time, replacing history. Stories from the past often bridge the gap between reality and the supernatural, and thus continue to capture our attention today. We will learn about some of them during Sunday’s hike to the Devil’s Rocks, led by art historian Simon Žlahtič.
We will start the hike at the old sanatorium, the venue of the EKO 9, and continue to the Drava River, where we will make our first stop at the witchcraft processes. Then we will walk together to the Maribor Island, where we will hear the story of the snake queen, and then we will see the Huzar jump. From there, we will continue to St Martin’s Church in Kamnik, where we will hear the saint’s story and historical features before hiking up to the Devil’s Rocks.
After a successful climb, we will exchange views and stories about the origins of the Hudiče rocks, and finish our hike at the viewpoint. The hike will take about 2 hours, don’t forget to wear suitable footwear!
