Educational programme for groups from primary schools, high schools and colleges

UGM | Maribor Art Gallery is inviting you on a guided tour of the ninth edition of Triennial of Art and Environment EKO 9, titled Eyes in the Stone in the Old sanatorium on Tyrševa ulica 19.

With the exhibition Eyes in the Stone, we give power to the primary emotion of fear to jolt us from our numbness to seemingly failing warnings of science. The artists in the exhibition respond in form and narrative to the threatening atmosphere in nature and culture. If we think of Earth as our home, then this is a house that is haunted. Freak weather events, mass extinctions, fires and floods, earthquakes, it’s as if the planet is waging revenge on its inhabitants. When moving out of this house or an exorcism is not an option, we must learn to dwell with these restless spirits. We enter this haunted house, this planet terror in order to understand and to make peace with the troubled spirits our presence on Earth has awakened. Come with us. If you dare.

Programme:

Guided tour / duration: 50-60 min / price: 2,80€

On the guided tour we will firstly get familiarised with the modernistic villa in the city centre. Well prepared, we will enter it’s spaces, that have been abandoned for many years, and are now a home to photographs, paintings, drawings, sculptures and videoinstallations. With our youngest we will explore the slightly dark rooms with the help of stories and research games. And the young will be invited to debate, share their viewpoints and possible interpretations of exhibited artworks.

Guided tour with a workshop / duration: 80-90 min / price: 3€

This exhibition highlights a quality building in the city centre, that has been empty for a long time. Sustainable aspects of urban planning follow the concept of using the existing space, instead of the spread of settlements into the natural environment. The children and the young on the workshop will be invited to shape ideas for content for the Tyrševa 19 building. Even while creating, we will be sustainable, we will be expressing our ideas in techniques, that are based on recycling and using environmentally friendly art materials.
